Opus88 × @pensandturquoisebrown Dumbo Octopus Fountain Pen

I’ve had a deep connection to the water for as long as I can remember, and this has naturally extended to my fascination with sea creatures and marine plants. Recently, new discoveries about deep-sea creatures and their habitats have inspired me to create a Marine Life series for my Opus 88 Mini collaboration with Hatch Create of EndlessPens.

The Opus 88 Mini Dumbo Octopus is a special project I’ve worked on with my youngest daughter, Kali. We chose the Dumbo Octopus for its charming resemblance to a little elephant, which is exactly what it’s named after. The Grimpoteuthis meangensis, a species found locally in our home country, the Philippines, is a deep-sea creature that lives at depths starting around 1,000 meters and deeper. While their method of defense remains a mystery, I like to imagine that their cuteness might be their secret weapon. Who could resist such adorable creatures, even at such extreme depths?

Kali and I had a wonderful time designing this pen to showcase the unique and playful nature of the Dumbo Octopus. Through this project and by introducing my daughters to the wonders of marine life, I hope to share my deep appreciation for the ocean and its incredible creatures. My hope is that their curiosity about these remarkable animals will inspire them to become thoughtful stewards of our oceans.
