Lady Bastet is one of the Gods in the Egyptian pantheon. She is known as the Cat Goddess to many, but in my life, she has been so much more than that!
She has given me the usual things—protection, life lessons, all the things you would expect of a patron deity. But most of all… she's given me the freedom to let loose!
Bubastis—an ancient Egyptian City—was the center of worship for Lady Bastet. They worshipped her not only dearly, but WILDLY. It is mentioned in writings of Herodotus that in the temple of Bast, more wine is imbibed at her Festivals compared to the wine consumed for the rest of the year. And festival goers would flash and yell risqué jokes at incoming boat travelers.
In today's progressively conservative society, we are taught to be dainty, pure, and delicate women. Born to be told what to do, what jobs to have, and what roles to play. However, Lady Bast invites you to take matters into your own hands. Build your own destiny, forge your own path with your bare hands. Take up space, for the universe is big enough for everyone.
