“This small business, is every bit about the story as it is the product.”
The company began operations in 2007. And did you know? The name Rickshaw is in fact a Japanese word. It comes from Jinrikisha (人力車), which literally meansliterally means "human-powered vehicle”, combining jin (人 - human), riki (力 - power/strength), and sha (車 - vehicle/cart). That inspiration is how this company was then called Rickshaw Bagworks. It’s underlying meaning is “human powered bags”.
Since then, Rickshaw has implemented new systems and efficiencies and things that make production streamlined to allow customers to have a better experience.
“But at the end of the day, we're still super hands on and we're super old fashioned. And it's just something about handling every product that leaves this building that's like really important to me.” - Mark
Rickshaw manufactures its own products in its own small sewing factory in the historic Dogpatch neighborhood in San Francisco.
