In 2012, Darrell started selling ceramics and commission paintings. In 2020 he was talked into creating pen blanks for his friend @NewtonPens. Then in 2022 he started making pens himself.

Currently, Darrell still make ceramics, blanks, and pens as well as other art.

At D Squared Arts, it's a one man operation, with just Darrell at the shop but he does enjoy collaborating with other artist to create works that people can enjoy.

Their Story

Darrell have always created. He studied architecture and engineering, graphic design, art, education, and sculpture and ceramics. For 14 years he was a middle school and high school Art Teacher. And then one day, Darrell took his own advice that he gives to his students to "step out and have faith in your work". And that led Darrell to pursuing his passions and starting D Squared Arts.

Our Story

Darrell offers commissions on most medium he works in. What's different about his work, especially with pens, is they are all hand shaped with rasps and sand paper.

Custom-Made Layered Blanks and Cone Fountain Pen

Their best-selling blank is their custom made layered blanks. These are genuinely 17-19 layers of what ever color combination a client wants.

The pen is tapered from the ends to the intersection of the barrel and cap. It mimics the shape of a cone. There are subtle variations that are made to the ends. Such as angles indentions that can be used as a worry stone or fidget.
