About the Creative

I’ve been a stationery lover for as long as I can remember. Who else covered every school binder in stickers and spent way too long choosing the perfect pen? Now, not much has changed. Give me a notebook, a great pen, and I’m in my happy place.

As an adult, my love for stationery has grown and expanded, first with washi tape and Tomoe River Paper, and then in 2020 I fell head-first into the world of fountain pens and inks. Shimmer, sheen, and all the glorious glitter—yes, please! If you know me, you know I have a soft spot (okay, a deep love) for anything purple. While my color palette has expanded, there’s almost always a purple pen in my hand, ready for journaling, note-taking, or just playing with ink.

By day, I work in sales in the digital book industry. By night, I’m at home in Cleveland, Ohio with my husband and our two cats, Lizzie and Charlie, usually in my craft room, surrounded by pens, paper, and inspiration.

Interview with @skydyedink

How did you fall down the rabbit hole of fountain pens and stationery? AKA, the moment that made you fall in love with writing tools and supplies

I’ve always been a fan of stationery, ever since I was little. A good notebook always caught my eye, and I loved writing, doodling, and of course, lots and lots of stickers! In 2020, a friend gave me my first fountain pen and ink samples. It was so smooth, and I loved the idea that you could constantly change your ink. Plus, so much shimmer. Who doesn’t love sparkle? I fell in love immediately that summer, and started getting involved in the community. Shopping everywhere, researching pens and ink online, and eventually visiting my first pen show (DC Pen Show) and starting my Instagram page.

What do you do for work? Is there any way this hobby is intermingled with your work?

By day I am a manager of a customer success team, supporting literacy and digital reading in schools across the US and Canada. I’m always using my pens to take notes during my many meetings, planning sessions, and conversations.

What else are you in to that you would like to share with people to better know you?

I definitely love to read! I went to school to be a librarian, but ended up in Ed Tech. I get the delight of working around books, so I’m always reading the latest YA fantasy, romantasies, and many other types of novels. I usually read digitally (on Libby!) but sometimes read physical books so I can take notes in them. I also love to take walks in my neighborhood, and am a crafty person that loves to crochet and make things.

What words/quote would you like to share to other aspiring creatives?

I never thought I could do something like this! I love to share what I’m passionate about with the world, and I love to learn from others in the community. I think it’s so inspiring that so many people in the stationery community are so creative with so many great ideas. Don’t hold yourself back and dream big!

What do you believe is the best starter fountain pen? Where should people start?

I love Nahvalur pens as great starters! The nibs are always smooth, and they have many different price points, to fit any budget. Plus, lots of colors to suit many different interests. Other great options include TWSBI and Kaweco.

What's your go-to pen and ink combo?

I don’t think I can pick one! I’m a big fan of Esterbrook Esties and BENU Talisman pens. My current go-to is the BENU Talisman Pink Opal with an ink mix I put together from a few different inks. My favorite thing is to match inks to pens.

What's your favorite color? :)

Purple
