Heather’s HATCH journey began back in June 2025, when she came to us with a story and a pitch that reflected her story and vision. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of getting to know her more deeply, and now we’re delighted to formally introduce her as one of our HATCH Creative Partners.

Know more about the pen and our HATCH creative’s inspiration!
Question 1: What or who influenced you to start journaling? If you can pick one, what is your favorite journal among the many journals you have?
@heathermarieplans: I had a diary, you know the ones with the little tiny lock?

I had one of those growing up and just wrote everything in it. That is definitely where my journaling started.
Question 2: When you aren 't journaling or exploring stationery, what other hobbies fill your time, and how do those creative outlets shape your daily life?
@heathermarieplans: My favorite journal would have to be anything with Tomoe River Paper. I love the crinkle of the paper when it has dry ink on it. It’s a comfort thing for me. It calms me.
Question 3: Tono&Lims are popular for their massive fountain pen ink collection! I'd love to know, what was the very first Tono&Lims ink to catch your eye? Do you currently have other Tono&Lims ink colors you like?
@heathermarieplans: My first Tono & Lims was BcCl200. That has to be the coolest ink I have ever seen. The way it changes as it Drys is so unique. I have several of their inks and really love them all.

Question 4: Your HATCH INKfinity was inspired by the Chesapeake Bay. Take us back to your fondest memory of this place. What were the highlights of your life where you have been there and when was the last time you visited?
@heathermarieplans: Growing up my dad took me to the beach every year. We would spend a week just running, playing, and spending time as a family. My fondest memories and inspiration were nights when we would sit on the beach and just talk. The waves breaking on the shore and all the colors as the sun went down, it was magical to see the colors bounce off the water. Life just seemed calmer and more peaceful back then.

That was what I wanted to capture with this ink, not just the colors I saw but the memories they held. For the new memories made using this ink to write or journal. I haven’t been back in years but we are planning a trip for next summer.
Question 5: Walk us through your mood board. What characteristics did you want your ink color to have? What was your first reaction when you finally saw ink come to life?
@heathermarieplans: Chromashading was my main characteristic oh and shimmer of course. I had to have some sparkle. I am such a green lover but I knew it had to be purple with pink and blue undertones.
My first reaction was speechless. It surpassed my expectations, it was absolutely perfect. I haven’t stopped using it since I received my first sample.

Question 6: What medium / app / tool do you prefer to use when you draw or make art? And what was the moment that inspired your ink label design?
@heathermarieplans: I love my iPad Pro and Procreate for drawing but watercolor is my first love so I knew I had to start with the ink as a backdrop. So, I painted the ink, took some photos and then dropped it into procreate to add the other elements.
Question 7: How did you first find out about HATCH? As a fellow creative partner, what other HATCH project stood out for you?
@heathermarieplans: I saw the dusk pen on instagram, that was when I realized what hatch was. I had actually bought the Soft Kitty Warm Kitty before seeing the Dusk but didn’t realize it was made by a creator like me. I thought it was made by someone that worked for Hatch/Endless. Then I met Neil at the Atlanta Pen Show and we talked for a long time about Hatch.

I have several Hatch Project purchases. Dusk and Loveletter are my favorite pen projects, so far :) and I have a lot of ink from projects. I love supporting creators.

Question 8: You have another upcoming collaboration to launch with HATCH that’s not been announced yet. We’re all excited for this too. Can you briefly describe your concept to give insight into what people can expect next from you and HATCH?
@heathermarieplans: I’m not sure how much I can say but it will pair nicely with my ink coming out. It has been in the works since April 2025.
It is something I have put my whole heart in. Every collaborator involved was chosen specifically for this design. While it has been a long road, it is very meaningful and I cannot wait to share it with everyone.
Question 9: How was your experience working with HATCH? Is there any specific detail you're glad you were able to represent in your design?
@heathermarieplans: My experience was wonderful. I was able to work with a brand I love and create the concept from start to finish. You made a small country girl's dream come true and I can’t thank you all for that enough. I love that you let the creator have full input in the color of the ink, designing the label, and even the color of the box.
Question 10: What’s the best way to keep up with you and your work? (Share your socials)
@heathermarieplans: On YouTube - it’s HeatherMariePlans and on Instagram - it’s HeatherMarie.Plans
