Pre-orders allow customers to reserve products before inventory officially arrives at our warehouse.
This is especially common within the fountain pen industry for:
- Special Edition fountain pens
- Limited Edition releases
- Newly announced products
- Manufacturer restocks
- Products with limited retailer allocations
In many cases, manufacturers announce products months before release. Once retailers are permitted to advertise these items, we open pre-orders so customers have the opportunity to secure inventory before products potentially sell out.

Pre-orders allow us to place larger supplier orders, which helps us secure better pricing that we can pass directly on to customers.
EndlessPens was built on the belief that fountain pens, including grail pens and luxury writing instruments, should be more accessible and affordable to more people.
🖋️ Access to a Larger Selection
EndlessPens currently carries over 3,000 products across the website.
As a small business, it is not always possible for us to keep every item consistently in stock at all times. Pre-orders allow us to offer a much wider variety of pens, inks, paper, and accessories than we otherwise could.
✨ Access to Limited & Special Editions
Many Special Edition and Limited Edition products have limited retailer allocations.
Opening pre-orders early gives customers an opportunity to reserve products before inventory arrives and before certain editions potentially sell out.
Are EndlessPens Pre-Orders Clearly Labeled?
Yes.
We’ve always tried to be transparent about pre-orders throughout the customer experience.
- Pre-order listings are clearly labeled on the website
- Customers receive a secondary confirmation email after purchase confirming their order contains pre-order items
- Tentative ETAs are now being added to many Special Edition and Limited Edition listings whenever possible

Recent Improvements to the EndlessPens Pre-Order System
Over the past few weeks, we’ve implemented multiple improvements to improve communication, visibility, and customer support regarding pre-orders.
📬 Automated Status Updates
Customers with active pre-orders now receive automated updates approximately every 30 days so they are not left wondering about the status of their order.
⏳ 95-Day Pre-Order Customer Updates
For regular pre-orders (excluding Special Pre-Orders), if an item reaches 95 days without arriving, we now:
- Partially ship any in-stock items from the order
- Issue a 10% refund on delayed item(s)
- Send customers an email offering the option to cancel at any time
📞 Earlier Supplier Follow-Ups
We now begin following up with suppliers around the 45-day mark for delayed pre-orders.
If inventory still has not arrived by day 75, we escalate directly with suppliers to prioritize shipment and gather clearer updates.
We also now have a dedicated team member reviewing pre-orders daily to ensure orders are actively monitored and customers are updated appropriately.
Why Can EndlessPens Pre-Orders Sometimes Take Longer?
While many pre-orders arrive much sooner, delays can occasionally happen for reasons outside of our direct control, including:
- Manufacturer production delays
- Material shortages
- Quality control issues
- International shipping delays
- Customs processing delays
Because many products come from international manufacturers and distributors, timelines can occasionally shift after orders are placed.
Why Might Another Retailer Receive Products Earlier?
One common question customers ask is why another retailer may receive a product before EndlessPens.
In many situations, this comes down to supplier structures, allocation systems, shipping methods, and ordering quantities.
We often purchase inventory in larger quantities and through different supplier channels in order to maintain competitive pricing for customers. While this helps us offer strong pricing and wider availability, it can occasionally affect lead times compared to retailers operating under different inventory models.
What Happens if a Manufacturer Cancels or Reduces Inventory?
Occasionally, manufacturers accept retailer orders and later reduce allocations or discontinue products entirely.
To improve transparency, we routinely review supplier backorder lists and proactively request updates so customers can be informed much sooner if changes occur.
