Interview with @mattdeford

How did you fall down the rabbit hole of fountain pens and stationery? AKA, the moment that made you fall in love with writing tools and supplies?

I was drawing with micron pens and was looking for an alternative that was more sustainable. A friend introduced me to fountain pens. I bought my first Lamy at an art supply store in Santa Fe, New Mexico and fell in love right away!

What do you do for work? Is there any way this hobby is intermingled with your work?

I am a professor of art, teaching advanced sculpture, illustration and watercolor. I get jealous of my students making art so I make it with them.

What else are you into that you would like to share with people to better know you?

I love to recover furniture patchwork style.

What words/quote would you like to share to other aspiring creatives?

Do your research, ask those who know, try hard things, and be OK with failure.

What do you believe is the best starter fountain pen? Where should people start?

Lamy Safari!

What's your go-to pen and ink combo?

Currently, Diplomat Aero Black Stripes EF nib with Diamine Majestic Blue ink.
