How did you fall down the rabbit hole of fountain pens and stationery? AKA, the moment that made you fall in love with writing tools and supplies
My first fountain pen was a Parker 15 that my parents gave me for Christmas in fifth grade. I used it for about nine years before getting my second pen, a Parker Urban. In 2016, I went full send into the hobby. I started collecting, moderating pen communities, and getting involved wherever I could. I even had a fountain pen podcast for a while.
What do you do for work? Is there any way this hobby is intermingled with your work?
I’m in medicine, so there isn’t a ton of day-to-day use for these pens anymore. It started as a good way to take notes in class, then turned into something that helped me study. Now that I’m past the classroom portion of my training, it has become more of an escape. It takes me away from the horrors, trials, and tribulations of being a physician and helps me feel a little more human.
What else are you in to that you would like to share with people to better know you?
I’m into watches, EDC gear, and design, and I’m always looking for fun new investments. I also really enjoy doing charity runs. I’m a firm believer in giving back to the community and helping people who truly need it. That’s a big part of why I chose the career path I did. I try to do some sort of charity run about once a year. This year’s was in May, and while we didn’t raise as much as last year, we still raised about $1,000. I’m beyond grateful for all the support I get every time.
What words/quote would you like to share to other aspiring creatives?

This has always stuck with me. Especially in today’s environment, with all the labels, name-calling, and general divisiveness in the world, I think we need to step back and realize that we are all human. At the end of the day, we are all looking for the same things. I think that’s beautiful.
What do you believe is the best starter fountain pen? Where should people start?
I think the single best starter fountain pen is the Diplomat Magnum. I rarely find a pen in that price range that is better tuned out of the box. It is also fairly low maintenance since it uses a cartridge/converter system, and it looks nice enough to carry anywhere. If you want something a little cheaper, the Platinum Preppy is another fantastic option.
What's your go-to pen and ink combo?
I love a Sailor 1911L with a fine nib inked with Diamine Oxford Blue! It’s a reliable nib with a fantastic daily ink.
