When I was a kid, this Christmas song would play in a loop along with other well-loved songs from my childhood. And for this one, I’d always imagine Santa in his workshop, poring over a long, long list to see who’d been naughty or nice. In my young mind, being ticked off as “nice” was a year-round goal because Christmas was the most awaited day of the year.
Naughty Or Nice?
Santa's List Day is a festive occasion celebrated on December 4th each year, and it holds a special place in the hearts of both children and adults alike. The day revolves around the anticipation and excitement of discovering whether one has been deemed naughty or nice by Santa Claus in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The concept of Santa's list is deeply rooted in the tradition of gift-giving during the Christmas season. It is also inspired by the classic, ever-popular Christmas song Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town. According to this season’s folklore, Santa maintains a meticulous record of the behavior of every child throughout the year. This list is divided into two categories — the nice list for those who have been well-behaved and the naughty list for those who may need a little more improvement in their behavior. (I’d like to think that Santa uses fountain pens in different colors to make such lists, because he’d be writing on reams and reams of paper.)
