Different Women | EndlessPens

Looking back, in the days of the old world, history reflects a long era of inequality where men dominated with power and privilege that women were denied. For so long, women struggled and progress did not come easily. For a significant shift to occur, women had to face and rise above restrictions and challenges unbeknownst to men. The series of sustained dire and unfair conditions led to a consciousness of wanting change. Women had to stand up, hold their ground, and pave the way to have autonomy, rights, and recognitions as men have,

“My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

– Maya Angelou (1928-2014), memoirist, poet, civil rights activist.

A Brief on the History of Women's Rights

Brief History About Women’s Rights | EndlessPens

Before Women’s Rights Were Established (Pre-1848 / Antiquity to 19th Century)

Women had no right to study, own property, vote, or move freely Law and privilege were centered around men in patriarchal systems.

The Establishment of Women’s Rights (1848–1920s: The First Wave)

Women endured and struggled. Emerging with awareness, women became inspired and hungry to change. Movements were organized and sustained. Tragedies suffered by women magnified and sparked the need to change

After Women’s Rights Were Established

Gender equality became the universal human rights standard. Policies against discrimination, misconduct, and violence against women were enacted to ensure protection, guarantee fair access, and promote moral standards.

Inspiration and Influence of Women

While there is still a long way to go, women have come so far in influencing and reshaping the world. From suffering in silence to finding a strong and willful voice women have persisted in challenging the norm and bridging gender gaps.

Today, we recognize women’s contribution in:

Politics: From having the right to vote to landing a place in leadership and governance, women inspire confidence, public trust and champion social welfare and representation. Like Eleanor Roosevelt who redefined the role as First Lady during her husband’s presidency. Beyond her ceremonial duties and despite being faced with controversies, she was unafraid to challenge the status quo and advocate for the marginalized. Her influence as a tireless advocate for racial equality, civil, and human rights pioneering women’s leadership with political savvy and empathy makes her one of the most famous female leaders to this day.

Education:
From having the right to education to establishing the foundation for independence, stability, and economic growth, women rise in fields like Science of Science, Technology, Mathematics and others. Like Marie Curie who is not only an exceptional trailblazer of her generation, as the first woman who won the Nobel prize, but also a role model to today’s generation of women for her contributions and discoveries in the field of Science and her resilience against scrutiny and sexism in a male dominated field.

Economics: From having the right to keep wages, to owning properties, women improve their own financial security and build empires; finding success in businesses often inspired by social entrepreneurship, fair trade, and sustainability aside from profit. Like one of the CEOs and founders of Canva, Melanie Perkins, had the vision to make design accessible to everyone and she made it possible. Despite doubts, Canva has attracted millions of users worldwide. Now the platform is not only a success, it has also inspired other people to explore design and even find their own success.

Sports: From facing great disapproval and severe limitations to winning championships in sports events even in the Olympics, women now participate and break records in competitions and form leagues instead of playing only for recreation or amusement. Like the figure skater, Alyssa Line who redefined success by finding her own path in the sports she loves and setting boundaries, perspective and commitment to championship. She has not only won the gold medal, she has also inspired others to come back and rediscover the sports they love.
