Tom’s Studio is a United Kingdom-based small business known for producing high quality, responsible, and innovative stationery tools for creative pursuits. Run by husband and wife, Tom and Gemma, the brand features a range of handmade fountain pens, calligraphy pens, inks, and pen accessories.

“We aim to bring joy through craft and community, inspiring everyone to realize their creative potential.”

Tom’s Studio began with a simple observation: Tom noticed his wife, Gemma, using a plastic calligraphy pen that didn’t match the beauty of her calligraphy work for her wedding stationery business.

Armed with experience as a furniture designer and creative mind for product design, he jumped on creating a calligraphy pen that would fit perfectly for his wife. Using his father-in-law’s 1960s original Myford engineering lathe, he used Corian and brass to make his first creation. Gemma loved Tom’s creation, and soon so did others. Since then, they never looked back.

Tom’s first calligraphy pen became the catalyst that propelled the brand to what it is today. From its humble beginning in Tom’s father-in-law’s garage to working on weekends and evenings, the passion-filled journey to create innovative creative tools encouraged Tom and Gemma to move out to sunny Dorset and begin Tom’s Studio. Tom reinvested every profit into improving his products, all while nurturing a community of artists and creators who supported his journey and kept sustainability at the front of his mind at every decision.

A Labor of Love

Tom’s Studio is not just a business for the founders. It is a labor of love born from passion and creativity, and a focus on innovative, high quality, sustainable products that brings the needs of the creative community to the forefront. The brand’s mission is to create beautiful and innovative tools that inspire folks to be creative and benefit from all that this brings.

Each pen is designed by Tom himself, and hand-built by the team based in their Somerset studio. This hands-on approach not only enables Tom’s Studio to create unique, high-quality pens but also ensures that they can maintain and support products long after purchase. The brand also works with a select group of manufacturers from around the world to source the finest components, including nibs, inks, and tips.

It is Tom and Gemma’s vision to stay small, to keep serving a wonderful community of like-minded creative folk, and to do the work they love for people who care.
