Description
Hanafuda is a card game that spread throughout Japan in the 18th century.
Each card depicts a scene that symbolizes one of the 12 months, based on the seasons or traditional events of the lunar calendar. Players compete to score points by creating specific combinations from the 48 cards.
Hanafuda is therefore a game that requires both luck and intelligence, and it is still enjoyed by people today. The ‘Hanafuda’ artist, Isana Kobayashi has hand-painted his signature and serial numbers on each barrel. This product features Yubi maki-e underdrawings, and caftsmen further apply maki-e individually by hand.
