Celebrating Independence Day
Independence Day has always been observed with great fanfare in the United States. In honor of the Second Continental Congress’ unanimous approval of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the Fourth of July has invariably been considered one of the most important holidays in America since then.
In the past, it was traditional to hold major groundbreaking ceremonies to coincide with the Fourth of July celebrations. Independence Day festivities were held nationwide throughout the day, with public parades, patriotic concerts, and family picnics and barbecues commencing in the daytime, and culminating in spectacular fireworks displays at night.
This year, that core concept of freedom has a particularly poignant significance, as Americans also celebrate the possibility of being able to reconnect with their loved ones after receiving Covid-19 vaccinations, and commemorate the Fourth of July face to face once again. This would be the perfect opportunity to surprise your loved one with a special pen or ink to mark this doubly notable event.
EndlessPens Fourth of July Favourites
EndlessPens would like to help celebrate this year’s Independence Day with you. With several of their products on special discounts just for this holiday, you can choose an especially memorable Fourth of July gift for a loved one and/or for yourself, as a token of hope, renewal, and possibility. Among those offerings, I have chosen a few recommendations that I would personally love to try for myself, in honor of the quill and ink that helped make Jefferson’s “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” a reality. Here they are:
If you’ve ever wanted to try a Japanese-style eyedropper fountain pen, this is a good choice to start with. Engineered using a combination of ebonite and translucent acrylic, it is a nod to vintage eyedroppers as well as allowing for visible ink levels. To prevent the sudden burping or leaking of ink that might occur with most eyedroppers, the piston knob at the end of the pen has been designed to operate a shut-off valve as a fail-safe apparatus. With approximately 2 ml ink capacity and a high quality steel JoWo nib, the writing experience promises to be satisfying.
Lamy Dialog 3 Fountain Pen, in Piano White -
For those of you who are drawn to a sleeker, ultra modern aesthetics in combination with an uncommon mechanism, look no further. This fountain pen’s twist-action retractable gold nib, as well as other unique design elements, elevates it beyond the usual classic fountain pen construction. Made of sturdy metal with a shiny white lacquer finish, it evokes elegant minimalism that somehow says space-age to me. The gold nib is a good representative of Lamy’s trusted quality as it has been crafted to glide on paper with ease. With its comfortable girth, lower center of gravity, smooth shape, and reliable workmanship, it is an intriguingly distinctive fountain pen to have.
Faber-Castell E-motion Fountain Pen, in Pure Black -
In contrast to the other metal and wood fountain pens in this series, this edgy, stealth-black model really stands out. Sporting a barrel made of black anodised aluminum with a velvety guilloche finish, it offers a comfortable tactile sensation in spite of its somewhat chunky design. The writing experience also proves that metal pens need not be cumbersome to use. It is further enhanced by a well-made steel fountain pen nib that behaves like a gold nib upon paper. This contemporary fountain pen could be your everyday workhorse pen.
Pelikan Classic M205, in Blue Marble -
The well-known Pelikan brand of fountain pens is adequately represented by this more affordable series that exhibits the same exceptional engineering. This fountain pen’s high capacity piston-filling mechanism is just one feature that the brand is famous for. Its steel nib is another prime example of how consistently superior functionality is possible even with variable price points. The Classic M205 in Blue Marble has a lovely, deep blue pearlescent finish that complements the transparent ink window, black cap and grip section, and chrome trim perfectly. The writing experience with this pen is a testament to the high standards that Pelikan aims for with its fountain pens. This distinguished level of craftsmanship will never go out of style.
Graf von Faber-Castell Fountain Pen Inks, in Garnet Red and Cobalt Blue -
This premium line of quality fountain pen inks is another step up that can enhance your overall writing experience. They are generally well-behaved inks, with good flow and lubrication, easy to clean, and come in a sufficient variety of colours. Some are labeled as indelible inks, and offer a certain degree of water resistance. These inks come in luxurious, heavy-bottomed glass bottles that would look great on your writing desk. The Cobalt Blue ink is a rich, medium blue that can be used for work. The Garnet Red ink is a deep red, burgundy shade. Although it is on the dry side, it could be a good partner to your pens that write on the wetter side.
These choices of mine are but a few among the products offered by EndlessPens to commemorate Independence Day. I hope you find one that embodies the spirit of the Fourth of July.
