Several years ago, a particular brand suddenly burst onto the fountain pen scene and made waves with its colorful models and various filling systems. This is, of course, none other than Leonardo Officina Italiana fountain pens.
Solely crafted in Italy, these fountain pens have attracted many fountain pen enthusiasts with their beautiful artistry and Italian craftsmanship. These fountain pens are known to combine rich heritage with innovation and modernity, making them a truly wonderful addition to any writer’s collection.
If you’re looking to buy your first Leonardo pen, then knowing the differences between the most popular models can be very useful information. Here, we’ll compare the sizes of the Leonardo Momento Zero, the Leonardo Furore, and the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande.
Momento Zero
The Momento Zero is the first pen model that Leonardo Officina Italiana released in 2018, inspired by vintage Italian fountain pen designs. This is a full-sized fountain pen that is comparable in length to other popular models such as the LAMY Safari when capped. When the cap is removed, the pen is more similar in size to the LAMY 2000.
It is the smallest of the three Leonardo pens featured here with a length of 14.2 cm capped. The body measures 12.7 cm uncapped, including the nib.
Furore
The Furore is the second model launched by Leonardo in 2018 after the success of the Momento Zero. The cigar-shaped body is reminiscent of old classics that never go out of style. The Furore is known for its beautiful, bright colors that are inspired by the Amalfi Coast landscapes, from intense red berries to blue waters and white sands.
The Furore is just a little bit longer than the Momento Zero, measuring at 14.6 cm. The biggest design difference is the Furore’s torpedo shape whereas the Momento Zero has flatter finials. Both pens weigh 27 grams, have cap diameters measuring 1.55 cm, and have grip section diameters that measure 1.06 cm.
Momento Zero Grande
The Momento Zero Grande is an excellent pen in its own respect with a great design, superior build quality, and well-tuned nibs. It improves on its smaller, original counterpart (the Momento Zero), and is a wonderful addition to the Leonardo family for those who prefer a slightly larger pen.
As the name suggests, the Momento Zero Grande is the largest of the three Leonardo models featured here. When comparing it to other popular large fountain pens such as Sailor King of Pens, it is not that much wider but is definitely longer and heavier. Compared to the Momento Zero, it is more than a centimeter longer. It measures at 15.6 cm with the cap and weighs 30 grams. The grip section is also a little longer than that of the Momento Zero, which balances the pen out nicely. This makes it easier to use, even for people with smaller hands.

The Bottom Line
When choosing from Leonardo, it all depends on your preference in pen design. Perhaps you have smaller hands and may enjoy using the lighter and slimmer Furore. Others might prefer the balance of a longer and weightier pen like the Momento Zero Grande. Whichever one you end up selecting, you can be guaranteed a beautiful pen that is made with excellence and representative of the best of Italy, all for a reasonable price.
