Description

According to legend, the seigaiha pattern originated in the Sassanid Empire. During the Asuka period (592-710), it spread to Japan from China via the Silk Road. It is composed of slices of semicircles arranged like fish scales, just like repeated and stable waves on the sea, exuding a sense of stability and harmony. It has the meaning of peace and tranquility in Japanese culture, and it is regarded by the Japanese as auspicious patterns.

In ancient times, dragon and phoenix are both noble and auspicious symbols. They are the birds that exorcise evils and cater for good fortune in people’s hearts. We combine the two theme to present the blessings of magnificence and auspiciousness!

There are two different traditional motifs decorated on this pen. The seigaiha (or blue sea and waves) pattern on the cap and a phoenix on the barrel. Unlike Japanese raden finish with mosaic motifs upon the object surface, the pen's raden shells are skilfully cut to fit and inlay in the hand-carved ebonite body, followed by multiple polishing. The pen is fitted with a JoWo nib.

CYPRESS’ series of Raden that takes traditional craftsmanship into the fountain pen pattern, we try to do and design, finally break the tradition and boldly challenge the various of elements. In the future, we will continuously release more exquisite collections to accompany with your writing time.
